Yahoo Movies Netflix's new hit teen romance movie debuts with 0% Rotten Tomatoes rating
Netflix’s new teen romance movie The Tearsmith has debuted with a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Italian language film, based on the novel by Erin Doom, follows Nica (Caterina Ferioli) and Rigel (Simone Baldasseroni), who are brought up in an orphanage and subjected to a tough childhood.
The pair are sworn enemies, but when they are adopted by the same couple as teenagers, their relationship develops into something else.
The Tearsmith has been popular with Netflix viewers – it was the second most-watched non-English language movie on the streaming platform during the last week (April 1-7).

However, the film hasn’t gone down as well with critics, and it debuted on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes with a disappointing 0% rating from its first reviews.
While there has been praise for the central performances, reviewers have criticised the plot and dialogue and described the film as "predictable".

Ready Steady Cut
"The story is predictable and filled with so many teen-drama tropes you'll wonder if there is any originality in it at all.
"I enjoyed the Gothic cinematography; the dark and bluish tones are calming and mystical. But the script and dialogue leave a lot to be desired. It's repetitive and basic; it tries too hard to be poetic and romantic."

"Chemistry wise, Caterina Ferioli and Simone Baldasseroni have their moments, as far as frustrated lovers trying to find their purpose together certainly can. But the setting as it's portrayed in the film took us way, way out of the immediate story, and especially impedes the romance.
"A few of the pieces in The Tearsmith don't really fit together, and that will make it a 'skip it' for some audiences."

"Credit where credit is due, though – The Tearsmith is entertaining in its own wild and unexpected ways. No one can deny a will-they-won't-they storyline, no matter how predictable it is, and I found myself on the edge of my seat anticipating the film's inevitable climactic moment."
