Netflix's forthcoming thriller sees a Logan star chase a time-travelling serial killer.

Boyd Holbrook, who played Pierce in the 2017 Wolverine film, will front Netflix's new "genre-blending psychological thriller" In the Shadow of the Moon, which drops on the streaming service later this month.

In the film, Boyd plays Thomas Lockhart, a Philadelphia police officer who longs to be a detective and begins tracking a serial killer who mysteriously resurfaces every nine years.

When the killer's crimes begin to defy all scientific explanation, Lock becomes obsessed with the case – and his need to discover the truth puts his career, his family, and his sanity in jeopardy.

"You have to stop chasing me. I'm doing all this for a reason," the mysterious suspect warns Lock at one point.

"You have no idea what's coming. If you kill me now, the world as you know it will end."

The film has been directed by Jim Mickle and also stars Dexter's Michael C Hall and Cleopatra Coleman.

Boyd Holbrook has previously appeared in films The Predator and Gone Girl, and at the end of last year the star apologised for not speaking up sooner after his Predator co-star Olivia Munn spoke out about the casting of a registered sex offender in the film.

In the Shadow of the Moon drops on Netflix on Friday, September 27.
