Former Coronation Street actor Neville Buswell, who was best known for playing Ray Langton in the long-running ITV soap, has died at the age of 76.

An obituary for Buswell was published on the website of Las Vegas's Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery, detailing that he passed away on Christmas Day 2019. His picture was posted to the site alongside a poem.

Buswell, who was born in Chapel-en-le-Frith in Derbyshire in 1943, joined the Coronation Street cobbles in 1966 with his character becoming well known for being a troublemaking womaniser.

He left in the same year before returning full time in 1968 for a 10-year stint.

The bad boy had romances with many of the street's women before settling down in 1975 when he wed the iconic Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride).

However, when the actor was written out of the programme in 1978, Ray ended up abandoning his family, leaving Deirdre and their young daughter Tracy behind as he set off alone for Amsterdam.

Buswell subsequently relocated to the US where he worked as a croupier, and had a cameo as Langton in a one-off Coronation Street special entitled Viva Las Vegas in 1997.

His character met his end for good in 2005 when Ray came back to Weatherfield to reunite with Deirdre and Tracy before he died from cancer.

Anne Kirkbride, who played Buswell's on-screen wife, died in 2015 from breast cancer.
