New Alien 5 Concept Art Revealed

It looks as though Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming ‘Alien’ sequel is coming along nicely… as he reveals even more concept art from the project.

Appearing on Instagram, the 35-year-old sci-fi director unveiled his latest look at ‘Alien 5’ – this time, picturing Ripley and Corporal Hicks side-by-side.

“#alien going very well,” he said alongside the image. “Love this project”

Of course, Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley last appeared alongside Michael Biehn as Corporal Hicks in the 1986 ‘Alien’ sequel, ‘Aliens’.

But what’s happened to them since?

The last we saw of them, Ripley and Hicks had just survived a grizzly encounter with the Alien queen… and after saving the life of Newt – a young girl played by Carrie Henn – they enter hypersleep (alongside their badly-damaged Android friend, Bishop) for the long journey back to Earth.

But then ‘Alien 3’ happened…

In the first few minutes, it’s revealed that Ripley’s craft has crash landed – killing everyone on board aside from Ripley herself. And this is where it all gets a bit tricky. Obviously, if we find Hicks alive and well in ‘Alien 5’, this could well rewrite the events of the earlier films.

Notably, erasing ‘Alien 3’ and ‘Alien: Resurrection’ from existence.

Unfortunately, we’re not quite sure whether or not this is the case. Blomkamp himself has already hinted that he’s willing to overlook the least favourable ‘Alien’ movies… but later backtracked.

“My favourites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens,” he told AlloCine. “That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection, I just want it to be connected to Alien 1 and 2.”

And while a slew of earlier concept art seems to suggest a return for Corporal Hicks, it looks as though we’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out.

I mean, let’s face it – while Hicks’s appearance may hint at an alternate history for the ‘Alien’ franchise, it could also reveal that Hicks survived the earlier crash. Either way, it looks as though Michael Biehn will likely reprise his role alongside Sigourney Weaver.

And we can’t wait to see what happens next.
