New Behind-The-Scenes Look At Doctor Strange

A new behind-the-scenes image from ‘Doctor Strange’ has appeared online… but could this be our first look at the good doctor’s lair?

Appearing on Twitter, Marvel co-President Louis D’Esposito has unveiled a fleeting glimpse of the ‘Doctor Strange’ set… and it might just give us a rather cool glimpse of a key location.

But where is it, exactly?

Pictured alongside ‘Doctor Strange’ director Scott Derrickson and fellow Executive Producer Stephen Broussard, it looks as though Louis D’Esposito snapped a rather cool set pic.

And judging from the background, this could be the Sanctum Sanctorum.

A rather odd-looking three-story townhouse which appears in the ‘Doctor Strange’ comic books, the Sanctum Sanctorum is based at 177A Bleecher Street in New York’s Greenwich Village… the home of Doctor Strange.

Built upon ancient Pagan burial grounds, the house acts as a focus point of supernatural energy – essentially the perfect residence for Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme to tap into the arcane arts.

Much like Doctor Who’s TARDIS, the house appears to be a lot bigger on the inside… and is home to many supernatural artefacts such as the Orb of Agamotto, which is contained in its own special chamber.

But are these ancient on-set sigils part of the Sanctum Sanctorum, or something else?

We already know that Tilda Swinton will be appearing in ‘Doctor Strange’ as the Ancient One – an ancient, mystical being who is known to comic book fans as Doctor Strange’s mentor. And this could well be the Ancient One’s Himalayan temple… depending on what scenes will appear on those green screens behind them.

Either way, the set design looks spot on… and it’s certainly remaining somewhat true to the aesthetics of the comic books - at least, when it comes to these ancient designs.

Let’s just hope Benedict Cumberbatch’s costume is just as impressive.

‘Doctor Strange’ heads to cinemas on 28 October 2016.
