New Lego Batman Trailer Brilliantly Mocks Past Batman Movies

To the mournful strains of Mozart’s brooding Requiem, Lego Batman regards the pictures of his late parents in the lavish drawing room of Wayne Manor.

It’s a touching moment, broken only by a powerful karate kick to Alfred’s chest, sending him careening into a grand piano.

Rather marvellously sending up all of the previous iterations of Batman, Alfred notes that he’s seen Master Bruce go through similar phases of introspection ‘in 2016, and 2012, and 2008, and 2005, and 1997, and 1995, and 1992, and 1989, and that weird one in 1966’.

This is the second teaser in the space of a week for the standalone 'The Lego Batman Movie’, having spun-off from 2014’s excellent, Oscar-robbed 'The Lego Movie’.

Will Arnett is reprising his role as the self-regarding caped crusader, alongside an impressive voice cast, including Ralph Fiennes heard here playing Alfred.

Directed by Chris McKay, it also stars Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, and Mariah Carey as the Mayor of Gotham City.

It’s due out in February, 2017.
