New Logan Trailer gives X-23 her claws... just like Wolverine

A new ‘Logan’ trailer is here… and it’s pretty epic.

Exploding onto the internet, the latest ‘Logan’ trailer has already blown ‘X-Men’ fans away. Featuring a longer look at Laura Kinney – aka X-23 – the new trailer shows us exactly why we needed an R-Rated Wolverine movie. And with appearances from Professor X as well as Richard E Grant’s ominous villain, it looks as though ‘X-Men’ fans have plenty to get excited about.

Professor X hints at X-23’s origins

If you’ve read the comic books, you’ll know all about X-23. Essentially, she’s a clone of Wolverine, created by the original head of the Weapon X project in an attempt to replicate their earlier success – creating Wolverine. And while we still don’t know for certain whether or not that’s how ‘Logan’ will pan out, it seems Professor X has given us one hell of a hint.

“She’s like you,” he explains. “Very much like you.”

Of course, it seems obvious that’s the way ‘Logan’ is going. After all, how else would X-23 end up with powers that are almost identical to Wolverine? But will every part of her horrific backstory make it to the big screen? For now, we have to wait and see.

X-23 gets her claws – just like the comics

Obviously, it’s not long before ‘Logan’ starts to pile on the action sequences… and it looks as though X-23 gets her fair share. Much like the comic books, she has some pretty awesome powers. And she’s just as brutal, too.

After being hunted down by Donald Pierce and his band of Reavers, things look dire for poor X-23. That is, until she completely slaughters one of his men off screen before going outside to take them all down with her Adamantium claws.

And when she reveals them, they look exactly like her comic book counterpart.

As you can see, X-23’s claws are different to Wolverine’s – sporting two claws on each hand instead of his trademark three. Of course, the comic book reveal she has another claw in each foot. But whether or not that makes it into the movie remains to be seen.

The X-Men comics make an appearance

Now, this has to be an ‘X-Men’ first – the comic books actually appear in the movie. Appearing in a scene between Wolverine, X-23 and Professor X, it looks as though the ageing Logan has stumbled upon X-23’s hidden stash of comics.

“We got ourselves an X-Men fan,” says Logan as he waves around X-23’s copy of an ‘X-Men’ comic book. But he’s not impressed. “Maybe a quarter of it happened,” he adds as he flicks through the pages. “And not like this.”

It’s a nice touch, and definitely appreciated by the fans. But it looks as though this could be a not-so-subtle hint that Logan won’t be suiting up in his classic ‘X-Men’ costume as many had hoped. Not a huge surprise, but still.

Wolverine and X-23 team up… and it’s glorious

It was bound to happen – the new ‘Logan’ trailer gives us an impressive glimpse of what happens when Logan and X-23 put their heads together… and use their claws together, too. And it’s absolutely glorious.

Given X-23’s extreme nature, I’m guessing we can expect a lot more of this. After all, they’re on the run and she can certainly handle herself. In the trailer alone, we catch her removing the cybernetic arm from one of The Reavers as she and Wolverine make a daring escape.

But will both of them get out of this alive? Can she save herself and Logan?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
