New Veronica Mars trailer released

The Kickstarter-funded project will premiere later this year.

A new trailer for the movie version of teen TV show Veronica Mars has been released.

The two minute video sees Kristen Bell returning to her breakout role as the titular former private investigator, now a lawyer in New York City. But the film sees Miss Mars compelled to return to her roots 10 years later when ex-boyfriend Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) is accused of murder.

Chris Lowell returns as Veronica's current love interest Piz, while Kristen Ritter will appear in her old role of Veronica's on/off friend Gia Goodman and New Girl favourite Max Greenfield will return as Leo D'Amato. Meanwhile Jamie Lee Curtis puts in an appearance interviewing Veronica for a job, and James Franco is rumoured for a cameo.

The film was crowd-funded by fans through Kickstarter, who raised $5.7 million in pledges, obliterating the project's original $2 million goal.

Kristen Bell took to Twitter earlier this week to thank fans for their support, posting: "YOU GUYS MADE THIS POSSIBLE. I can never say it enough: Thank You. Xoxo"

Veronica Mars is due in selected cinemas on 14 March in the US, with a UK release yet to be confirmed.
