New X-Men Viral Site Unveils Mutant Impact On 25 Moments In History
A new ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ viral site reveals that mutantkind have been interfering in historical events for a number of years.
The website, 25moments.com, chronicles a number of pivotal moments throughout history, unveiling the quiet battle that has raged for decades between those with extraordinary gifts and those that seek to eradicate them.
Incidents such as the mysterious weapons malfunction in ‘X-Men: First Class’ that prevented the Cuban Missile Crisis, conveniently erased tapes of a White House meeting between Bolivar Trask and President Nixon, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster protests at the Berlin Wall, Olympic record tampering and South African reform are all mentioned. The implication of Magneto in JFK’s assassination, as detailed in another of the film’s viral sites, thebentbullet.com, is also included.
The site goes on to detail events following the climactic battle in ‘The Last Stand’, which saw the Golden Gate Bridge destroyed as the Brotherhood of Mutants attempted to stop Worthington Labs’ plans to suppress the X-gene.
In 2008, a ‘Mutant Wall’ was erected to hinder the movement of mutants across the U.S boarder. In 2009, Trask Industries developed a collar to inhibit mutant abilities. Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters subsequently closed, and in 2011 the Occupy Wall Street protest saw mutants rise up against the oppression of their kind.
Looking further into the future, the website reports the death of Hank ‘Beast’ McCoy, and the forming of a group of mutant rebels by Bishop, who will kick-start the events of ‘Days of Future Past’.
Basically, it’s all very clever.
Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, Nicholas Hoult and Anna Paquin are all set to reprise their roles in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, which opens on May 22 in the UK.
