Newcastle poised to complete ‘simple’ deal for Chelsea star set to be a victim of ‘extensive’ Boehly clearout
Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher, as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his midfield.
The England international is expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. This is because Todd Boehly needs to balance the books after a season of huge spending.
Gallagher is widely considered to be a top player on his day. So, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle win the race for his signature.
Howe has overseen an incredible turnaround at St James’ Park this season. The Magpies currently sit in third place in the Premier League table and look destined to qualify for the Champions League.
As a result, Newcastle are expected to make several signings this summer. One of the key areas Howe is looking to improve his midfield, with several names on his shortlist.
For instance, RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is on the manager’s radar. Also, as revealed by TEAMtalk, the Tynesiders are firmly in the race for James Maddison.
With Howe set to be backed with plenty of funds this summer, it will be very interesting to see who they bring in.
Gallagher tipped to leave Chelsea
Now, according to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are strongly considering a move for Gallagher this summer.
They note that the deal should be ‘simple’ given the 23-year-old is expected to be part of an ‘extensive Stamford Bridge clear-out.’
Gallagher, who has two years remaining on his current contract, has made just 15 Premier League starts this term.
Indeed, the England international has found it difficult to maintain his spot in the Chelsea starting XI, following the arrival of Enzo Fernandez in January.
Now, we could potentially see Gallagher line up alongside the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. If, indeed, Newcastle do make a move to bring him in.
However, despite Chelsea being willing to ‘listen to offers’ for the midfielder, he won’t come cheap.
Transfermarkt value Gallagher at approximately £32m. So, it’s likely Newcastle would have to match that price to seal a deal.
Ultimately, soon-to-be Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will have the final say on Gallagher’s future. Although, everything is pointing towards the Englishman leaving the club at the end of the season.
