Newcastle United have enjoyed a fruitful transfer window this summer and now we’re nearing the business end of it all. But of course, there is still time for any further twists and turns that could be making their way over the horizon.
Eddie Howe’s side still have some potential deals to consider and we’ve rounded up some of the latest headlines as Friday’s deadline day approaches.
Newcastle exit deal collapses
Isaac Hayden was set for a season-long loan move to Premier League new boys Luton Town but talks have now reportedly collapsed. The out of favour Newcastle midfielder travelled for his medical on Monday and an announcement was pending, but now the deal is seemingly off, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.
Not much information has been provided in the update but unless a new suitor emerges in these final days, Hayden looks set to stay with the Magpies as it stands. He hasn’t appeared for the club in almost two years and his current contract runs until 2026. Hayden spent last season out on loan with Norwich City but a knee problem seriously hindered his time on the pitch, and he was limited to just 14 appearances in the Championship.
Magpies shut down advances from two clubs
Newcastle have also rejected advances from more of their Premier League rivals as Nottingham Forest and Fulham have both enquired about signing Matt Targett on loan for the remainder of the season, according to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail.
The left-back has slipped down the pecking order behind Dan Burn and has played just three in the Premier League this campaign. Following the arrival of Lewis Hall, Targett’s opportunities are expected to be slim and NewcastleWorld understands that the 27-year-old ‘is open’ to leaving St James’ Park after growing frustrated over his lack of regular time on the pitch.
