Nicholas Galitzine lands He-Man role in long-delayed Masters of the Universe movie

The Idea of You star Nicholas Galitzine has landed a leading role in the long-delayed Masters of the Universe movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will play the film's protagonist He-Man, a superhero who uses his superhuman strength and abilities to defend his native planet.

Directed by Bumblebee's Travis Knight, the live-action film will introduce 10-year-old Prince Adam, who separates from his magical Power Sword after crashing to Earth in a spaceship.

"After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor," the film's synopsis reads.

"But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!"

The script for the movie is penned by Chris Butler, following initial drafts written by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee.

The film was originally developed for Netflix, before the streamer dropped it in the summer of 2023. The blockbuster has since moved to Amazon MGM Studios and is set to land in cinemas on June 5, 2026.

The Masters of the Universe brand was first introduced by Mattel with a line of action figures in 1982, before the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe premiered in 1983.

The upcoming film continues Galitzine's long-running relationship with Amazon. Ahead of starring in the streamer's recent rom-com alongside Anne Hathaway, the actor played Prince Henry in romance adaptation Red, White & Royal Blue.

Galitzine also appeared as Prince Charming in Amazon's 2021 musical adaption of Cinderella, opposite Camila Cabello. The film's star-studded cast also included Frozen star Idina Menzel, The Witcher: Blood Origin's Minnie Driver, Pose's Billy Porter and James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan.

The Masters of the Universe live-action movie will be released in cinemas on June 5, 2026.
