Yahoo Movies Nicki Chapman opens up about shock brain tumour diagnosis on This Morning
Nicki Chapman has praised her husband Dave Shackleton for being her rock following brain tumour surgery five weeks ago.
The Escape to the Country presenter appeared on This Morning to talk bravely about her shock diagnosis earlier this year.
She told Holly and Phil: 'Because of my age, often you put things down to other things, I was tired and not concentrating, but then I was doing a photoshoot and realised I couldn’t see.'
At first, Nicki was told she had suffered a stroke. 'There was a big tear permanently falling down my right eye, I couldn't stop crying,' she explained. 'Then they said they needed to do more scans and I realised it was more serious. I was then told I had a brain tumour, and that I had actually had it between one and two years.'
She underwent surgery to remove the tumour, but her surgeon assured her there was no need to worry. 'I still have a bit of him left – I call him Burt – you have to have a bit of a sense of humour,' she said.
The former Popstars judge is now recovering, and took the opportunity to thank those close to her for their support. 'The last few days [before the operation] I was on my hands and knees sobbing, that's when my husband was there,' she said. 'You know your friends and family are good, but they really come into their own when something like this happens.'
Last week, Nicki made a surprise appearance at the Chelsea Flower Show – her second home as presenter of the BBC's coverage for the last 13 years.
It was fantastic to see her looking the picture of health in a gorgeous green dress and Kurt Geiger heels.
