Nicki Chapman takes 'one day at a time' after brain tumour ordeal
'Escape To The Country' star Nicki Chapman still takes "one day at a time" after her “terrifying” brain tumour ordeal.
The 57-year-old television presenter is in remission after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2019, which was the "size of a golf ball", and despite being a "very positive person", it's always in the back of her mind that it could return.
She told The Mirror: "It is a very frightening condition to be told you have and also such a shock for your family, too. Fortunately, my experience was a good one, my recovery was amazing, but I still take one day at a time. I'm a very positive person, so to always put a positive spin on life has helped keep me going."
Nicki is a rare case where her tumour healed, and she was actually filming in a field of pigs when she got the good news that she was “all-clear”.
She said: "I was filming Escape To The Country and standing in a field of pigs when my consultant phoned me. He told me my brain tumour had gone. I asked him, 'Is that usual? ' And he said, 'Yes, but it's quite rare.' I immediately phoned my husband Dave and we were both in tears. It was such a huge relief to us both."
Some of her scary symptoms included not being able to see or speak.
She shared: "I went on holiday, felt fine, came back, did a photoshoot and that afternoon realised I couldn't see again. Then I had to do a voiceover and I couldn't speak. I walked into the edit, sat down and the editor was chatting away, and I looked at him and thought, 'I can't talk to you.' Nothing was coming out."
