Nicolas Cage has been injured in a ‘freak accident’ on set.

According to Variety, the 53-year-old actor broke his ankle in Bulgaira, on the set of his latest movie, before being transferred to L.A. for treatment.

“Nicolas Cage has broken his ankle on the set of heist movie “#211” in Bulgaria,” they revealed. “It’s currently unclear how the accident happened, but he was transferred to a hospital near the set before heading back to Los Angeles for treatment. He’s still in L.A., with hopes to return to set in about two weeks.”

The injury was described to Deadline as the result of a ‘freak accident’.

It’s currently unclear how this will affect the filming of ‘#211’ – the upcoming heist-action flick from Millennium Films in which Nicolas Cage took a starring role.

“Cage was [initially] taken to a top hospital in Sofia, Bulgaria, near where the film is shooting,” revealed Deadline. “Doctors wanted to immediately perform surgery. Cage instead decided to hop a plane to Los Angeles for treatment.”

But it sounds as though he’s keen to return to the film.

“His camp confirms that Cage is currently convalescing, but that he hopes to return to the set probably and resume working within two weeks.”

Either way, the word is that ‘#211’ has been left dangling without its star… and they have reportedly shut down production while they away Nicolas Cage’s return. But at the moment, there’s no official word on how his injury has affected production.

The upcoming heist film stars Nicolas Cage as a police officer attempting to thwart a bank robbery – the ‘211’ of the title being a police code for ‘robbery in progress’.

‘#211’ stars Nicolas Cage, Sophie Skelton, Dwayne Cameron, Weston Cage, and Michael Rainey Jr.

York Shackleton is both writing and directing the movie.

‘#211’ is set for release sometime later this year.
