Nigel Farage handed big-money offer for Channel 4's Banged Up: Stars Behind Bars
Nigel Farage has been offered a five-figure sum to appear in Channel 4's 'Banged Up: Stars Behind Bars'.
The 59-year-old politician - who has moved into the world of television with his own GB News show and a stint on ITV's 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' last year - is wanted by the broadcaster to participate in the second series of the programme that sees famous faces get a taste of life in prison.
An industry insider told The Sun newspaper: "Nigel isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but he’s great for ratings.
“He did surprisingly well in the jungle and is keen to do more reality TV. Producers are hoping to get a deal over the line with him soon.”
Farage - who was a key figure in the UK's decision to vote for Brexit in 2016 - previously described the Channel 4 series as "very interesting" and suggested that he would be open to featuring on the show.
He said: “'Banged Up’s' very interesting.
“I proved in the jungle I can do that. So I’m not against more of it.”
Farage reached the final of 'I'm A Celebrity' but is likely to be the last politician to appear on the hit show for some time due to this year's General Election as well as presenters Ant and Dec revealing that they want a change after the former UKIP leader and ex-Health Secretary Matt Hancock appeared in recent series.
A source told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “In the past it’s been really interesting to see which politicians are willing to join the show, with some even serving MPs.
“But this year, with an election looming, it doesn’t feel like the right moment for that.
“Coming on top of Farage not helping to pull in the punters last year, and Ant and Dec making it clear they want a change, this year it’s a case of avoid, avoid, avoid. It’s time for something different so it’s fair to say no one is seeking any controversial figures from the world of politics at this stage."
