The Night Agent star Gabriel Basso has landed a new role in an upcoming Netflix film, which is set to be directed by an Academy Award winner.

Deadline reports that Basso will join the currently untitled project from Kathryn Bigelow, best known for directing Point Break, The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.

Basso will reportedly sign onto the project at the same time as Chernobyl star Jared Harris, with the pair set to join the previously announced Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson.

With the title currently under wraps, plot details are also scarce, but reports suggest that the action will be set in the White House as a national crisis unfolds.

The film will be another Netflix project for Basso, who can currently be seen opposite Jessica Alba in Trigger Warning. The action film sees Alba play Parker, a returning soldier who is thrown into a conflict following the death of her father.

The film received lacklustre reviews upon its release on Friday (June 21), with several critics bemoaning the lack of originality in the feature, which was directed by Mouly Surya.

Whilst Trigger Warning may not have warmed the critics, the second season of The Night Agent will hopefully prove to be more successful, with Netflix announcing in February that production was underway.

"The last week has been a whirlwind as we've finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world," said creator Shawn Ryan upon the renewal. "To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix.

"We couldn't be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on season two to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans," he added.

Trigger Warning is streaming on Netflix now.
