No Plans For Captain America 4, Say Civil War Directors

‘Captain America: Civil War’ - the third solo outing for Chris Evans’ Marvel superhero - hits cinemas on Friday but it could be the last time we see Cap headlining his own movie for a long time.

When asked about the prospect of a ‘Captain America 4′ movie, ‘Civil War’ directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed Marvel currently had no plans to make a fourth instalment.

“[’Civil War’] is the only [Captain America film] planned on the books,” Joe Russo told Yahoo Movies.

“Our focus right now is purely on ‘Avengers: Infinity War’”

Following the release of ‘Civil War’, the Russos will dive right back into preproduction on the epic 2-part ‘Avengers’ movies due in cinemas on 2018 and 2019.

They promise it’ll bring the whole 3-phase saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a head, but they refused the rule out the possibility of another solo Captain America film further down the line.

“Anything’s possible at Marvel,” added Joe, “Who knew a year ago that we’d be able to see Spider-Man in a Marvel movie, so we can never say ‘Yes, this is definitively [the last solo Captain America film].’”

“Both ’Infinity War’ films are meant as the culmination films to the first three phases, but we have no idea what the plans are for the future.”

Chris Evans could prove to be the sticking point that’ll hold back future Captain America films as his multi-picture deal with Marvel is rumoured to expire after the second instalment of ‘Infinity War’.

If Cap is to return in a future solo movie, they may need to reboot the character entirely by drafting in another actor or character to assume the shield and costume.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ is coming to cinemas on Friday, 29 April.
