No, Rambo Isn't Going To Be Fighting ISIS In His Next Movie

It appears that details of John Rambo’s next perilous mission might have been exaggerated… or, more accurately, made up entirely.

News emerged yesterday on what appears to be a fake news site that he was set to take on the so-called Islamic State for the fifth instalment in his long-running action franchise.

He was said to have told an audience at Comic-Con: “We have teams scouting Iraq and parts of Syria where Isis have their greatest strongholds.

“We’re working with the locals there to help deliver the most intense and realistic Rambo movie experience ever.”

The only minor issue here is that he wasn’t actually at Comic-Con.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, a rep said: “Sylvester Stallone did not attend Comic-Con 2015, and consequently there was no official remark from him regarding Rambo made there at the event.

“This is not an accurate report.”

In fairness, it was perhaps not beyond the realms of possibility.

The war in Syria and Iraq is doubtless being discussed on the studio lots of Hollywood as we speak, and the fourth excursion for Sly’s grizzled Vietnam veteran was notoriously, stomach-churningly violent.

But it appears Rambo won’t be heading out to Syria to take on the brutal regime.

He is writing the fifth Rambo movie right now, though it’s not known yet where the action will take place.

Amusingly, and with much self-deprecation, Stallone said that he hoped he’d be up to the task, ‘Otherwise it won’t be Rambo fighting, it’ll be Rambo fighting arthritis’.

The first Rambo movie, 'First Blood’, emerged in 1982, with 2008’s 'Rambo’ taking place in Burma.

Next up, Stallone will be starring in the Rocky spin-off ‘Creed’, with Michael B. Jordan as the son of his late boxing chum Apollo Creed.
