The artwork for Normal People author Sally Rooney's new book has been released - and it's stunning.

The author announced her new novel Beautiful World, Where Are You? earlier this year, and there's now not long to wait. The cover is a simple blue and yellow image, with black text. It sheds light onto characters in the book.

"This book is a brilliant exploration of the intertwined lives of four characters; I wanted it to feel like you were catching glimpses of them through clouds like melted holes in the cover revealing the characters inside," explained Jon Gray told Entertainment Weekly.

"Manshen Lo's [who illustrated the cover] work has exactly the right tone. It's cool and distant, but also has enough personality and detail in it to make it feel somehow very human and domestic."

Beautiful World, Where Are You? will be published on 7 September 2021, and according to the publishers, the book will centre on four characters as they navigate friendship, love and sex.

Alice and Eileen, are two friends in their 20s with very different paths ahead of them. Novelist Alice meets Felix, who asks her to go to Rome with him. Eileen is getting over a breakup in Dublin, and reconnects with a childhood friend.

During the course of the book, Alice and Eileen "exchange emails about art, friendship, the world around them and the complicated love affairs unfolding in their own lives. They say they want to see each other again soon. But what will happen when they do?"

The publisher, Alex Bowler at Faber, says: "Sally’s new novel is a book of friendship and sex, art and faith, power and love. It absorbs you once again in the inner lives of characters with brilliant minds and aching hearts, while marking the next creative leap from a singular writer. The book scintillates with intelligence, empathy and, yes, beauty.”

The TV adaptation of Normal People, which starred Daisy Edgar Jones and Paul Mescal, was the most-streamed series of 2020 on BBC iPlayer. Over 62 million viewers couldn’t get enough of Connell and Marianne’s relationship.

Last year it was announced that her award-winning first novel, Conversation With Friends, is being adapted for the BBC. It centres on the tale of two college students in Dublin and the surprisingly connection they find with a married couple.

Sally has signed a two-book deal with Faber, so we can expect more from her soon.
