Normal People star Paul Mescal is set to team up with Strike actor Tom Burke for a new Irish thriller movie.

The pair will star together in Bring Them Down, according to Deadline, which is set in the wild landscape of the West of Ireland.

The thriller centres on an Irish shepherd, who gets drawn into a violent conflict with a neighbouring farm after his sheep are massacred by unknown men.

Bring Them Down will serve as the directorial debut of Christopher Andrews, with production set to get underway in the third quarter of this year.

Mescal is of course best known for his breakout role as Connell Waldron in last year's hit BBC drama Normal People, which earned him an Emmy nomination.

Fellow BBC star Burke plays the titular detective Cormoran Strike in Strike, which has run for four series since 2017 and is adapted from Robert Galbraith's (JK Rowling) novel series of the same name.

Meanwhile, Mescal opened up to Digital Spy exclusively last year about his big hopes for 2021, saying: "I am looking forward to working. Working in a safe manner.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity to go back into a theatre, and going to a cinema and feeling safe. I'm looking forward to – it sounds so basic, but I'm looking forward to everyone's health not feeling compromised or in danger. I think that's a huge thing, and it's very hard to discuss anything else other than that.

"What I'm actually looking forward to in terms of experience, it all has to do with the arts. I can't wait to go see a gig. I can't wait to go see my friends in the theatre. I can't wait to go to the cinema. I'm really excited to share, hopefully soon, what I'm going to be working on next year, and for people to see that too."
