The Best and Worst Models Turned Actors
But just because clothes hang off you well and you can strut down a catwalk without faceplanting, it doesn’t automatically mean you can act too. Here’s the best - and worst - models turned thesps.
- 2/13
Best: Mila Jovovich
Before she became the ass-kicking queen of sci-fi we know today, Mila Jovovich was one of the most in-demand models on the planet. After a few false starts, she got her big Hollywood break playing Leeloo opposite Bruce Willis in Luc Besson’s ‘The Fifth Element’, but is probably best known for playing Alice in the ‘Resident Evil’ series.
- 3/13
Best: Sofia Vergara
The Columbian bombshell once dubbed Sofia Viagra in certain corners of the tabloid press has gone from strength to strength in Hollywood since landing a lead role in the hit US sitcom ‘Modern Family’. She’s gone from bit parts in Tyler Perry movies, to headlining comedies with Reece Witherspoon in this year’s ‘Hot Pursuit’.

Best: Cara Delevingne
In the 3 years since she made her acting debut in ‘Anna Karenina’, the face-pulling supermodel has landed a series of high profile roles and is taking acting very seriously. She’ll headline teen drama ‘Paper Towns’ this summer before a role in DC Comics adaptation ‘Suicide Squad’ should propel her to the A-list.
- 5/13
Best: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
OK, so she only has two acting credits to her name and her debut in ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ was widely panned, but she proved to be a magnetic screen presence in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and for that reason, we think she’s got what it takes to be a proper actress, should she give up the catwalk.
- 6/13
Best: Tyrese Gibson
Tyrese started out modeling in a Coca Cola commercial in 1994 before landing high profile campaigns for Guess and Tommy Hilfiger. As well as branching out into music, former clotheshorse Tyrese has carved out an impressive film career appearing in the ‘Transformers’ and ‘Fast & Furious’ franchises.

Worst: Claudia Schiffer
The German supermodel may be married to one of Hollywood’s hottest directors, but being Mrs Matthew Vaughn doesn’t necessarily make you a great actor. Her film appearances have perhaps wisely remained largely cameos, but she makes for an awkward screen presence as anyone who’s seen ‘Love Actually’ can attest.
- 8/13
Worst: Kate Upton
Kate Upton is blessed in many ways, but we’re sorry to say acting isn’t one of them. To be fair, she didn’t get much of a chance to prove herself in ‘The Other Woman’ as her role was about 90% bikini slow-mo, but she could yet redeem herself in the William H Macy-directed “road trip sex comedy” ‘The Layover’.
- 9/13
Worst: Gisele Bundchen
Brazilian supermodel Gisele’s performance in the English-language remake of ‘Taxi’ can be described as stilted at best. It may have landed her a Teen Choice Award nomination for breakout performance, but it didn’t land her a movie career.

Worst: Brooklyn Decker
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue regular Brooklyn Decker has just 5 movie credits to her name but has been nominated for 3 Razzies. First for Worst Screen Couple in ‘Just Go With It’, then for Worst Supporting Actress in ‘Battleship’ and ‘What To Expect When Your Expecting’.
- 11/13
Worst: Tyra Banks
The ‘America’s Next Top Model’ host has one stone-cold classic in her filmography in the shape of ‘Coyote Ugly’, but aside from that her acting fortunes have been mixed. She mainly appears playing herself in cameos now, but a sequel to her “living doll” Disney comedy ‘Life-Size’ has been mooted for sometime.
- 12/13
Undecided: Suki Waterhouse
The English model has a number of minor film roles under her belt, most recently as Marlene in the YA series ‘Insurgent’. We’ll see if she’s got what it takes to be an actor when she appears as Kitty Bennett in 2016’s horror comedy ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’.

Undecided: Emily Ratajkowski
Spellcheck menace Emily Ratajkowski made her movie debut in ‘Gone Girl’ but was only on screen for a matter of minutes, one of which involved her taking her top off, so until ‘We Are Your Friends’ hits cinemas, her acting talents remain unproven.
