The OA star Jason Isaacs has reflected on the show's fans "extraordinary" efforts to save the series as he opens up about its cancellation.

Ever since Netflix made the controversial decision to axe Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij's supernatural drama after two seasons, fans have been rallying for the streaming service to revive it and Jason was among those to share his support for the #SaveTheOA campaign just last month.

While on Sunday Brunch today (September 22), host Tim Lovejoy asked the actor if we'll be seeing any more from the series and while Jason had some (more) bad news about the show's future, he did also reveal details of the fans' campaigning efforts.

"The OA is this extraordinary show and Netflix, in their infinite wisdom – far be it from me, I don't have their jobs, I wouldn't want their jobs, their responsibility – have decided not to make anymore," Jason said.

"The fans have gone nuts and, God bless them, they've put up a billboard in Times Square and they've done movements all over the place. Some lady went on hunger strike – thank God we persuaded her not to do that anymore."

When questioned further, Jason added that "we all got in contact with her", explaining: "I think it's a brilliant TV show, maybe the most interesting and original thing I've ever been in, but she shouldn't make herself sick because of it."

Still, the actor continued to add that "millions of people are devoted" to The OA, saying the campaign to save the series is "extraordinary" – but it may not be enough, as Jason also admitted that he doesn't think the show will return.

"I hope we get to make some more but I don't see how it's going to happen," he shared.

"But even the fact that there are two seasons of this amazing show to watch, the great thing about Netflix is that it never goes away. I suggest people watch it. If you haven't seen it, you'll never seen anything as original in your life. It's phenomenal."

Jason Isaacs, who's also starred in Harry Potter and Star Trek: Discovery, was on the show to discuss his new film Hotel Mumbai, but he also revealed that despite starring in several hit projects, he tends not to get recognised when he's out in Britain.

"I get the tube, go to the supermarket, but people don't think they're going to get on the tube and sit next to a wizard, generally, do they? Or an evil scientist," he said.

"It's Britain. In America people talk to you all the time."

The OA is available to watch on Netflix, while Sunday Brunch continues on Sundays on Channel 4.
