The Office US actor Steve Carell will be directed by Jim Halpert himself John Krasinski for a new movie.

Titled IF (yes, in capitals), this project was first announced last October, with Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Fiona Shaw all involved.

Deadline now confirms that it'll play host to a reunion between Carell and Krasinski, who haven't collaborated since the aforementioned sitcom came to a close nine years ago.

Plot details are still under lock and key, but what we do know is that Krasinski (responsible for two A Quiet Place hits) dreamt up the story which chronicles a kid's journey to rediscover their imagination.

Alan Kim (Minari), Cailey Fleming (The Walking Dead) and Oscar winner Louis Gossett Jr have officially joined the cast, too.

As you can see below, the filmmaker addressed the big news on Instagram yesterday (January 25), writing: "Ah, what if one day I could assemble my dream cast? What... IF."

It's also not entirely out of the question that we might one day see a revival of The Office.

Speaking last August at the Edinburgh International TV Festival, NBCUniversal content chairwoman Susan Rovner told Deadline that "whenever [showrunner] Greg Daniels wants to do one, we're standing by".

NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell also revealed in January 2021 that The Office was being more actively streamed on its own streaming platform Peacock than it had been on Netflix.

So, it certainly sounds like the network is very much up for it and it's just a case of getting the cast and crew back together. Dunder Mifflin, here we come?

IF is scheduled for release on November 17, 2023.
