Official Film Chart 4th December 2019

Disney’s The Lion King digs its claws in to retain its position at Number 1 on the Official Film Chart for a second week.

Following its full physical release last week, the photorealistic remake of the animated ‘90s Disney classic, starring Donald Glover and Beyoncé, roared its way to the top spot where it remains way out in front as the UK’s biggest DVD and Blu-ray for the second week running.

Woody, Buzz Lightyear and gang rebound two places as Toy Story 4 lands at Number 2, while former Number 1 Spider-Man: Far From Home swings down one spot to 3. Action movie franchise spin-off Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw (4) also scores the biggest download of the week for a second time.

Elsewhere, Taron Egerton’s depiction of Elton John in Rocketman climbs two spots back into the Top 5 this week (5), while Disney’s Aladdin and Danny Boyle’s Yesterday stumble to 6 and 8 respectively.

With three weeks to go until Christmas, it’s The Grinch who leads the seasonal titles, advancing another four places all the way into the Top 10 this week to Number 7, plus Disney’s Frozen and Elf perch just outside the Top 10 at Numbers 12 and 13. Avengers: Endgame holds firm at 9.

And finally, Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans delivers the biggest climb of the week. Based on the best-selling book series and CBBC TV show, the movie tells the story of Atti, a quick-witted Roman teenager who manages to upset Emperor Nero with one of his schemes. His punishment? Atti is sent to work in a cold and wet Britain where he meets the Celts. Horrible Histories tunnels 21 places north to break this week’s Top 10 (10).
