Olivia Colman lands next lead movie role
Olivia Colman will star alongside Dev Patel in a romance film with a difference due to begin filming next year.
The Crown star will appear in Wicker as a "smelly fisherwoman" who ignites her conservative town into a frenzy of jealousy and gossip after she embarks on a new relationship, reports Deadline.
Slumdog Millionaire's Patel will play Colman's love interest in the film, based on the short story The Wicker Husband by Ursula Wills-Jones.
Wicker's official synopsis reads: "On the outskirts of a village by the sea, lives a Fisherwoman (Olivia Colman); smelly, single and perpetually ridiculed. One day, fed up with her stuffy, small-minded neighbours, she commissions herself a husband to be made from wicker (Dev Patel). In an otherwise conservative town, this unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos."

It will be directed by Save Yourself!'s Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, and will go into production in Europe in 2024 according to the publication.
The news comes after Colman was confirmed to be one of the villains in Paul King's Wonka, set for release on December 8 in the UK, and December 15 in the US.
"I think you can tell from the trailer she's not the romantic lead, she's one of the villains. She's a great villain, she's terrific," King said during a trailer preview event.
Paterson Joseph, Mathew Baynton and Matt Lucas will also play "rival chocolatiers" in the film alongside Timothee Chalamet's Willy Wonka and Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa.

Patel, meanwhile, is working on his directorial debut Monkey Man in which he will also star. He also produced and co-wrote the piece.
Originally set to release in 2022 before being delayed to 2023 and now labelled undated, the film stars Patel in the lead role alongside Made In Heaven's Sobhita Dhulipala.
Speaking to Eastern Eye, Dhulipala praised Patel both as an actor and a director: "He is a really good actor but I think he is an even better director. He worked on this script for close to eight years, before Raman Raghav came out."
Wicker is yet to receive a release window.
