Actress Olivia Colman has revealed she wants a part in the upcoming James Bond film.

The as yet untitled film, known unofficially as Bond 25, will see Daniel Craig play the spy for the last time, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge writing the script.

Colman, who played Step-Mother in the widely acclaimed Waller-Bridge project Fleabag, said she “begged” to take part in the comedy series while the first series was being written, and called the actress and writer “extraordinary”.

The Favourite star said: “I think I begged Phoebe to be in it, when she was writing the first [series]. But the second one, it felt like she just had a built-in confidence. She thought, Okay, I know what I’m doing, I’m just going to really let rip. And she did.

“The first episode of the second series, to me, was like a piece of theatre, a piece of writing that I would have studied at school. She’s extraordinary and it’s a pleasure to say anything that she’s written.

Colman, who comedy fans will always remember for playing Sophie on Peep Show, admits she asked Waller-Bridge to make her character in Fleabag horrible as she “always wanted to play a baddie”.

She said: “And also, to film it, is so much fun, because they’re my mates. I will be eternally grateful to Phoebe, because she said, What sort of things do you want to say? And I went, could you write me someone who’s a total [spells out a four-letter expletive].

“So she made up this person for me. Yeah. I always wanted to play the baddie and she’s written a really good one.”

Oscar-winner Colman went on to reveal she would snap up the opportunity to play a part in Bond 25. When asked about using her connections with Waller-Bridge to land a role, she said: “Oh, trust me, I’ve tried,” before adding: “I’ve asked!”

Bond 25 is expected in cinemas in Spring 2020.
