Yahoo Movies One Tree Hill star "embarrassed" by treatment of female sexuality
One Tree Hill actress Hilarie Burton has said that she feels "embarrassed" by the drama's portrayal of "teen girl sexuality", saying that she is disgusted by the fact that female sexuality stories were told by men.
Burton, who played Peyton Sawyer on the show, made the comment on Twitter after another Twitter user shared a photo from their "adolescent psychology textbook" which featured a photo of Peyton being embraced by her boyfriend Lucas Scott, played by Chad Michael Murray.
The caption under the photo in the book references teenagers being "exposed to sex in many contexts, including TV" - and Burton commented that she wasn't happy about how female sexuality was handled on One Tree Hill.

"Embarrassed by this," she wrote. "Teen girl sexuality was a cornerstone of #oth, so its gross to me that there were no women in positions of power there. No one we could turn to to advocate for us. Men telling the stories of girl sexuality is a red flag. I want a do-over with a girl boss."
Her statement was met with support by fans, with one commenting: "You all deserved so much better and so did the viewers ... I hope things are changing now for the better".
She was also backed-up by her One Tree Hill co-star Sophia Bush, who played Brooke Davis in the show, who commented: "co-sign".
One Tree Hill's creator and showrunner Mark Schwahn was accused of sexual harassment while working on The Royals in 2017, while multiple One Tree Hill cast members also wrote an open letter to him in the same year about the way they were treated while working on the show.

Burton's fellow One Tree Hill actress Jana Kramer, who played Alex Dupre on the show, recently spoke about behind-the-scenes tensions she experienced while working on the show, saying that one unnamed person "made it hell" for others on set.
She has not confirmed the identity of the person who she was speaking about or whether they were a cast or crew member.
One Tree Hill also starred James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz and Paul Johansson and focused on the turbulent relationship between basketball playing half-brothers Nathan (Lafferty) and Lucas (Murray), as well as the complex love lives of their friendship group.
