Though Oppenheimer has surpassed expectations, it seems likely that third place will be the pinnacle, with the drama still a whopping $500 million behind both Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
In addition to its latest record, Oppenheimer is also the highest-grossing film set during World War II, as well as becoming the highest-earning non-Batman film of Nolan’s career. In addition to popular success, the film also garnered critical acclaim, with the visuals and performances in particular receiving praise.
As a member of the star-studded cast, Florence Pugh recently revealed that Nolan actually apologised to her ahead of the casting as Jean Tatlock, with her lack of screentime being noted.
