Pugh said: "Lady Macbeth was probably the thing that kicked me into what it was that I wanted to make and what it was that I wanted to be.

"Three weeks later when I was deciding what kind of an actor I wanted to be in the industry, Shaheen Baig sent me this audition through for Lady Macbeth."

When asked about working with Nolan for the first time, Pugh revealed: "I had no expectations, other than the fact that he is probably the director that every single actor would race across the world for and pay for their own plane ticket.

She added: "That was the gift, and it's also wonderful that he also produces something amazing."
