During an interview with Audibly Exquisite Podcast, Walter Jones - who played the original black ranger, Zack - revealed that the ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’ won’t get a cameo in the new movie.

“It’s not likely,” he said. “Unfortunately, we were not invited to be part of the film, which is confusing to me, but I’m excited about the film nevertheless.”

The original ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ were played by Austin St. John, Thuy Trang, Walter Jones), Amy Jo Johnson, and David Yost… with Jason David Frank later joining the team as the Green Ranger.

But they’ve already appeared throughout the ‘Power Rangers’ shows.

Jason David Frank has appeared throughout the franchise in ‘Power Rangers Turbo’, ‘Power Rangers Wild Force’, ‘Power Rangers Dino Thunder’ and ‘Power Rangers Super Megaforce’.

Walter Jones himself has appeared in ‘Power Rangers Wild Force’.

So why didn’t they get a cameo in the new movie?

Judging from recent promo images, the upcoming ‘Power Rangers’ movie is definitely trying to step away from the cheesy image of the ‘90s TV show. After all, the new costumes already look pretty sleek and the villainous Rita Repulsa has never looked so sinister.

The camp, skin-tight suits of previous Power Rangers have been replaced with rather awesome looking armour… and perhaps a cameo from the original rangers would hamper the film’s efforts to be something entirely new.

Either way, it looks as though the original rangers won’t be back.

‘Power Rangers’ heads to cinemas on 24 March 2017.
