Yahoo Movies Oscar Isaac in talks to play Timothée Chalamet's father in Dune reboot
Poe Dameron might soon be on his way to another galaxy far, far away. Oscar Isaac is in talks to play Duke Leto Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune reboot, EW has confirmed. In other words, Isaac could very well end up playing Timothée Chalamet’s father on the big screen very soon.
Dune is an adaptation of the 1965 science-fiction novel by Frank Herbert, which tells the story of the noble Atreides family. After they are given control of the desert planet Arrakis (which produces a priceless spice), they are betrayed in a Game of Thrones-style political power play. It falls to young Paul Atreides (Chalamet) to build a resistance against the galactic emperor with nothing but desert tribes, a strange destiny, and that sweet sweet spice to help him. Rebecca Ferguson has already been cast as Chalamet’s mother (and thus Isaac’s wife) Lady Jessica, while Stellan Skarsgard was recently cast as their family’s mortal enemy, Baron Harkonnen. Dave Bautista, who previously worked with Villeneuve on Blade Runner 2049, was also recently cast in an unknown role.
Villeneuve’s is far from the first attempt to adapt Dune for the big screen; that would be surrealist director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s failed ’70s adaptation that was meant to star Orson Welles and Salvador Dali (which was memorialized in the 2014 documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune). Dune was finally adapted into a 1984 movie by David Lynch, with Kyle MacLachlan playing the Paul role. Another adaptation came in 2000, when John Harrison directed a three-part miniseries for the SyFy Channel.
