Tony Blair might be about to get the cinematic treatment, after ‘Amy’, ‘Senna’, and ‘Oasis: Supersonic’ producer James Gay-Rees allegedly met with a member of the former Prime Minister’s staff about a possible documentary on him.

The Telegraph have alleged that Gay-Rees, whose production company On The Corner oversaw each of the above films, had the idea suggested to him by one of Blair’s associates.

“Blair’s people met with James Gay-Rees. It got to the stage of Blair’s people saying, ‘What about making a documentary around Tony?’ They were really keen on the idea,” the insider revealed. “It just ticks all the boxes … If you look at everything that James has done, he has focused on really interesting people.”

A spokesperson for Tony Blair quashed this speculation, though, telling the Telegraph, “We receive many requests from documentary makers on a variety of subjects, but have neither sought nor agreed to do anything of the nature you describe.” James Gay-Rees also insisted, “We have not been asked to do anything by Tony Blair’s office nor refused anything.”

‘Amy’ was a humungous success for On The Corner Films, as it not only grossed over £17 million at the box office, but it was met with sterling reviews and won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 88th Academy Awards.

James Gay-Rees currently has his hands rather full, though, as he’s assisting ‘Amy’ director Asif Kapadia with a documentary about legendary Argentinian football player Diego Maradona. While Tony Blair is on a mission to restore his reputation after the culmination of the Chilcot inquiry, having recently set up the not-for-profit organisation the Tony Blair Institute.
