Oscars: £97k Gown Worn By Lupita Nyong'o Stolen

Lupita Nyong'o dazzled the Oscars red carpet with a pearl-encrusted dress on Sunday - but according to police in Los Angeles, the custom-made gown has been stolen.

The Academy Award-winning actress, who won plaudits for her role in 12 Years A Slave, contacted officers when the £97,000 garment went missing from her hotel room on Wednesday night.

Designed by Francisco Costa, the dress boasted 6,000 pearls of varying sizes.

Investigators in Los Angeles have been scouring surveillance footage at the West Hollywood hotel where Nyong'o is staying.

The 31-year-old, who helped create the Calvin Klein Collection outfit, has been praised in fashion circles for her choices on the red carpet in recent years.

She accessorised the dress with three Chopard diamond rings, in what she described as her "homage to Prince".

No arrests have been made in connection with the theft so far.
