Oscars snubs for stars including Angelina Jolie and Daniel Craig

Angelina Jolie and Daniel Craig are among the A-list actors who have been snubbed at this year’s Oscars nominations.

Jolie, 49, was unable to secure a leading actress nod for her role playing opera singer Maria Callas in Maria, a biopic directed by Pablo Larrain which received a lengthy standing ovation when it premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2024.

Jolie and James Bond actor Craig, 56, who stars in Luca Guadagnino-directed film Queer, both received nods at the Golden Globes, but have missed out on the possibility of winning a Bafta or Oscar this year.

Heretic star Hugh Grant, who has a best actor Bafta nod for the role, is another British star absent from the list.

London-born actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who secured an Oscars nod in 1997 for Secrets And Lies, failed to secure a nomination for Hard Truths, despite her Bafta nomination.

Film Kneecap was a surprise snub after the Irish language movie about the rap trio secured 17 nods in categories at the Irish Film and Television Academy (Ifta) awards and six Bafta nominations.

Cast and crew of the film gathered in a Belfast bar on Thursday before fans realised the group would not be gracing the red carpet at this year’s ceremony.

Those who have been in the running for awards, but missed out on nominations, also include Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman for erotic thriller Babygirl, US singer Selena Gomez for Emilia Perez, Gladiator II actor Denzel Washington and Baywatch star Pamela Anderson for The Last Showgirl.

Emilia Perez dominated the nominations, leading with 13, with actors including Ralph Fiennes, Timothee Chalamet and Adrien Brody securing leading actor nods and Cynthia Erivo and Demi Moore nominated for the leading actress gong.

The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Los Angeles, after being postponed twice amid the wildfires in the area.
