Yahoo Movies Over 250 Ukrainian civilians killed by landmines during the war
Since the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 261 civilians have been killed by landmines and other explosive devices, including 14 children, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported via Telegram on Oct. 23.
According to the agency, 559 people have received varying degrees of injuries from mines and explosive objects, 68 children among them.

The SES reminded people that dangerous items can be found in fields, forests, hedges, bushes, and bodies of water – particularly in areas where active fighting has taken place. Explosive devices could also be disguised as regular household items, such as a toy or a book.

The message urged Ukrainians to be mindful of the heightened risk of encountering landmines and to educate children on caution when noticing strange or out-of-place objects.

As a result of the war, 30% of Ukraine's territory is mined, an area equivalent to twice the size of Austria. The Ukrainian Interior Ministry estimates it could take up to ten years to clear all of Ukraine from landmines, post-war.
According to World Bank estimates, the full suite of humanitarian demining works in Ukraine will cost $37.4 billion. Just for the priority demining of agricultural lands, it will be necessary to raise $1.5 billion.
