The mighty mechanoid Jaegers managed to emerge victorious against the dreaded, gargantuan Kaiju. Who’d have thought they’d be beaten into submission by a group of acapella singers?

Yes, after weeks of Hollywood hearsay, it’s finally official: ‘Pacific Rim 2’ has been pulled from its originally scheduled release date of 4 August 2017 - on which date, studio Universal will instead release ‘Pitch Perfect 3.’

The third installment in the musical comedy series had originally been set for release on 21 July of that year.

- Morgan Creek Will NOT Remake The Exorcist

A new release date for the ‘Pacific Rim’ sequel has yet to be confirmed, but in a statement made to Variety, Universal insist the film has not been cancelled, stressing the wish to give the production more time to be “the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves.”

Director Guillermo del Toro has repeatedly insisted that pre-production work on ‘Pacific Rim 2′ is ongoing - but it looks as though he may make another, as-yet undisclosed film in the interim.

Though the original ‘Pacific Rim’ was co-financed and distributed by Warner Bros, ‘Pacific Rim 2′ moved over to Universal when production company Legendary Entertainment - previously based at Warners - moved house to Universal.

However, rumours are rife of troubles between Legendary and Universal, with the studio having reportedly refused to finance Del Toro’s most recent movie ‘Crimson Peak,’ and Legendary taking their upcoming production ‘Kong: Skull Island’ back to Warner Bros.

While we wait to see what Guillermo del Toro does next, his latest film ‘Crimson Peak’ opens on 16 October.
