Paddington 2 Begins Filming Later This Year

‘Paddington 2’ will be heading to screens sooner than we thought.

According to Variety, the upcoming ‘Paddington’ sequel will begin filming later this year… but will Ben Whishaw and Hugh Bonneville return?

“Paddington 2 will go into production in October in the U.K., Studiocanal confirmed Tuesday at Cannes,” they revealed. “The original Paddington was budgeted at $55 million and grossed nearly $270 million worldwide.”

According to Variety, the film is also for sale at the Cannes market… and it’s likely the biggest budget film to be sold at the marketplace this year.

But will the cast of ‘Paddington’ return for the sequel?

“No cast is set but after the smash-hit success of the original “Paddington,” it is expected that Ben Whishaw (Paddington) along with Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins will reprise their roles.”

‘Paddington 2’ will be directed by Paul King, based on a script co-written by both King and Simon Farnaby.

Of course, the original ‘Paddington’ did rather well at the box office, earning $270 million with a budget of just $55 million. And it received high praise from critics, with a 98% Fresh rating at film site, Rotten Tomatoes.

Will the sequel live up to its reputation?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but with Paul King returning to direct, it’s likely to capture the same British charm that made the first movie a hit.

‘Paddington 2’ heads to cinemas on 24 November 2017.
