Everything you need to know about Paddington 3
Paddington 3 is only five months away and we now have the first look at the much-anticipated third movie.
The third movie, officially titled Paddington in Peru, will arrive in UK cinemas in November. To help us get even more excited for it, Studiocanal released the first trailer on June 12, 2024 for us to savour.
Paddington in Peru will arrive seven years after the celebrated sequel Paddington 2, and it's already one of the most anticipated movies of 2024.
Dougal Wilson has taken over as director from from Paul King, who is an executive producer on the threequel and has written a story alongside Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton, with a screenplay by Burton, Jon Foster and James Lamont.
"After ten years of working on the Paddington movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I'm delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big-screen adventure," King said.
As we wait (im)patiently for the new movie to arrive, here's everything you need to know about Paddington 3, aka Paddington in Peru.
Paddington 3 release date: When can we expect Paddington in Peru?
Barring any last-minute delays, Paddington in Peru will be released in UK cinemas on November 8, 2024 and in US cinemas on January 17, 2025.
The movie started filming in July 2023 in the UK, but due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Rachel Zegler was unable to join production and had to be replaced in the movie (more on that below).
Filming wrapped up in October 2023 and hopefully everything is on track for that November release.
Paddington 3 trailer: Watch the Paddington in Peru trailer here!
The wait is over as the first Paddington 3 trailer was released by Studiocanal on June 12, 2024.
It revealed the first look at the new characters played by Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas and Carla Tous (more on them all in a bit), as well as Paddington's journey back to Darkest Peru to reunite with Aunt Lucy.

Paddington 3 cast: Who's coming back for Paddington in Peru?
It wouldn't be a Paddington movie without Ben Whishaw as the bear himself, along with Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin as the Brown family.
Sadly, Sally Hawkins has stepped down from her role as Mrs Brown, with Emily Mortimer taking over the role.
"For me it has felt the right time to hand the reins over to another, and one can’t get much better than the truly wonderful Emily Mortimer, she is extraordinarily special," said Hawkins.
"She will embody the essence of Mary Brown and yet make it utterly her own. However, I am, and will always be in love with Paddington's world.
"I already greatly miss my on and off-screen family – the experience of making the first two films has truly been some of the best and most creative times I have had in the world of film."
Olivia Colman has joined the cast for the third movie alongside fellow Paddington newcomer Antonio Banderas.
Colman plays the reverend mother who runs the Home for Retired Bears where Aunt Lucy is staying, while Banderas is riverboat captain Hunter Cabot who helps Paddington on his quest to find Aunt Lucy.
Rachel Zegler was initially meant to play Cabot's daughter Gina but, as mentioned above, she was unable to join filming. The role will now be played by newcomer Carla Tous.
Imelda Staunton is also back to voice Aunt Lucy, but it's unlikely we'll see Uncle Pastuzo following Michael Gambon's death. It's possible, however, that some archival audio could be used.
We wouldn't be surprised to find the residents of Windsor Gardens making an appearance too, so returns for Sanjeev Bhaskar, Ben Miller, Jessica Hynes and Doctor Who's Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi would not be a surprise.
Likewise, Mr Gruber's antique shop is surely due to feature, which would mean Jim Broadbent reprising his role.
Chatting exclusively to Digital Spy in April 2023 for his movie The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Broadbent wouldn't say much about his involvement in the new Paddington film, but did say that the chances of Mr Gruber returning were "very, very likely". (We'll take that as a yes.)
Knuckles McGinty and his fellow prisoners from Paddington 2 may be less likely to appear, but we wouldn't completely rule out finding Brendan Gleeson, Tom Davis and Noah Taylor back for the threequel.
If anything, we'd be a bit disappointed if they didn't appear.
Paddington 3 plot: What will Paddington in Peru be about?
With the first trailer, we now know that Paddington 3 will see Paddington, the Brown family and Mrs Bird head into the Peruvian jungle to find Aunt Lucy, who has gone on a mysterious quest.
What's not clear from the first trailer is who is the villain in this movie. Our money is currently on Olivia Colman's reverend mother, even if she does have a musical number in the movie.
But maybe it's totally different and there's no villain at all for Paddington to give a hard star to.
"The first film gives us a bit of information about where Paddington came from and how he found his home in London, And then the second story, he almost loses that home, but in doing so consolidates his community in London and his friends," Wilson said of the move to Peru.
"We thought for the third film, it was very appropriate to return to Peru, but this time take his London friends and community with him and have an adventure there and in doing so, fill in some of the missing pieces about what we didn't learn in the first two films."
Paddington in Peru will be released in UK cinemas on November 8, 2024 and in US cinemas on January 17, 2025.
