As the show came to an end, Paddy told the presenting pair to “have a good ’un”, before standing up to reveal to them that he’d actually been doing the whole interview in his underwear.
As Gethin was heard laughing, Alex said simply “aw… see?”, before telling viewers to have a good weekend.
Joking about the moment on Twitter later that evening, he commented: “To be fair it’s hot in our house.”
Since social distancing measures were introduced, the majority of TV interviews have had to be done over video-link, which has led to a number of similar – though probably less deliberate – moments to Paddy’s.
Back in April, US news anchor Will Reeve suffered a wardrobe faux pas when he was caught conducting an interview in a suit jacket and some very short shorts.
This was topped just days later, though, when a semi-naked woman was spotted in the background of one Spanish presenter’s home broadcast – and viewers quickly noticed that it wasn’t his girlfriend.
Then, of course, there was the moment last month when Sky News foreign affairs editor Deborah Haynes had her segment interrupted by her son asking if he could “have two biscuits” – the same day a similar incident took place on BBC News.
