Palm Springs spoilers follow.
The writer of Palm Springs has revealed just how long Andy Samberg's character Nyles has been stuck in a time loop.
The comedy movie follows Sarah (Cristin Milioti) as she meets Nyles, and after she follows him into a cave she finds herself reliving the same day over and over.
However, it turns out that Nyles has been in the loop for longer than he can remember – and according to writer Andy Siara, that's been quite a few decades.
"I don't know if I'm supposed to say exactly, but Nyles has [been] in there for over 40 years," he told Decider. "There are versions of the script where — mainly when Sarah comes in — I put titles in of how much time has passed.
"The main thing I hope got across was that a lot of time had passed. A lifetime of memories has passed, basically."
Since its release in the US, Palm Springs has broken a big record, racking-up more hours watched on Hulu over its first three days than any other film on the service in the same period.
It also became the most discussed Hulu original film on Twitter after its release on July 10.
Meanwhile, Samberg recently admitted he was nervous about the "legit acting" he would have to do in the movie.
"I'm very comfortable with comedy obviously, but I've got a lot less experience with more dramatic stuff," he said. "I would say that was the main difference for me coming into it."
Palm Springs is now available on Hulu and in drive-in cinemas in the US. A UK release date has yet to be confirmed.
