Paola Cortellesi’s ‘There’s Still Tomorrow’ Leads Italy’s Donatello Awards Nominations
Paola Cortellesi’s There’s Still Tomorrow, a black-and-white feminist comedy that became the top-grossing film in Italy last year, is the frontrunner for the 2024 David Di Donatello Awards, Italy’s equivalent to the Oscars, with 19 nominations, including for best film.
Cortellesi picked up a Donatello nomination for best directorial debut for There’s Still Tomorrow, which outpaced Barbie at the local box office and became an Italian cultural phenomenon. She also scored noms for best actress and best original script for the film, which she co-wrote with Furio Andreotti and Giulia Calenda.

Alice Rohrwacher’s grave robber drama La Chimera received 13 nominations, including for best film, best director, and a best actor for star Josh O’Connor. Marco Bellocchio’s Kidnapped, a drama about the true story of a Jewish boy taken from his family and forced to convert to Catholicism, picked up 11 nominations, including for best film and best director. Completing the best film nominees is Nanni Moretti’s latest, A Brighter Tomorrow, which napped a total of 7 nominations.
The Donatello’s best international film nominees include Christopher Nolan and Justine Triet’s Oscar winners Oppenheimer and Anatomy of a Fall, up against Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Aki Kaurismäki’s droll Finnish dramedy Fallen Leaves, and the Spanish-set thriller The Beasts from director Rodrigo Sorogoyen.
The 69th David di Donatello Awards will be held on May 3 at the legendary Cinecittà studios in Rome and broadcast live on Italian public broadcaster Rai 1.
