Paramount set to open £2bn theme park in Kent

Hollywood powerhouse Paramount Pictures has unveiled new plans to build a whopping £2billion theme park in the Swanscombe Peninsula in Kent.

According to reports, the Hollywood-themed park will feature Europe’s largest indoor water park, as well as cinemas, restaurants, attractions and hotels.

If the plans go ahead, the site will be double the size of the Olympic Park and bring 27,000 jobs to the area.

Paramount, who are behind blockbuster movies ‘Mission: Impossible’, ‘Tomb Raider’, ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Face/Off’ seem keen to cash in on the lucrative travel industry.

Film fans will have a long wait until they get to step inside the park though, as experts predict it will take around six years to build.

Tony Sefton, project leader for London Resort Company Holdings (the company behind the plans) announced that his vision is to “create a world-class entertainment destination, the first of its kind in the UK.”

A similar theme park to the £2bn Paramount project in Kent is set to be built in Spain and is due to open in 2015. Before 2006 Paramount owned six theme parks in the United States but these were all subsequently sold-off.
