The seventh film in the Paranormal Activity franchise will launch on Paramount+ this Halloween, a much earlier release date than the previously stated March 2022 theatrical release.
Tanya Giles, Chief Programming Officer at ViacomCBS Streaming, revealed during the company's session of the TCA press tour that it would be released alongside a documentary that would show the making of the film.
Giles and Tom Ryan, President and CEO of ViacomCBS Streaming, said: "A new Paranormal Activity from Paramount Players should bring fans an unexpected reimagining of the beloved horror franchise. We'll also be launching a documentary on the making of the Paranormal Activity feature. Both of which will be coming to the service in time for Halloween."
The new film will feature Emily Bader, Roland Buck II, Dan Lippert and Henry Ayres-Brown. There are currently no details about the plot, but the studio said it would be a "new, unexpected chapter" in the series. It will likely follow classic Paranormal Activity storylines and continuing the tradition of using 'found footage' to tell the story.
It will be directed by Will Eubank and written by Christopher Landon, who is executive producing along with Steven Schneider, horror movie connoisseur Blumhouse's Jason Blum, and creator of the franchise Oren Peli.
Details of the documentary were not available either, but the two projects will be one of three movies brought to Paramount+ each year for release each year. A prequel to Stephen King's Pet Sematary and supernatural thriller The In Between will also be appearing on Paramount+ in the coming months.
The In Between sees a teenage girl surviving a car accident that kills her boyfriend, but then believes he's trying to speak to her from beyond the grave. It will feature The Kissing Booth star Joey King. Neither Pet Sematary nor The In Between have release dates yet.
There is currently no information about a UK release for the seventh chapter of Paranormal Activity.
