Parent Fury Over Channel 5's Easter Screening Of Watership Down
What with the all too recent visit by the Easter Bunny and all, ‘Watership Down’ was perhaps a slightly ill-advised programming move by Channel 5 for Easter Sunday.
However, the backlash against the harrowing 1978 animated movie version of Richard Adams’ novel has been surprisingly robust.
Many took to Twitter to slam the broadcaster for deciding to show the movie, branding it 'horrifying’.
Not everyone deemed the screening of the movie inappropriate, however.
Got a point there, Doug.
At the time of the movie’s release in 1978, critics warned parents of the sometimes disturbing nature of the film.
In 2012, the BBFC also admitted that it ‘received complaints about the suitability of Watership Down at U almost every year since its classification’.
