Patrick Wilson has defended his former co-star Katherine Heigl, following a withering article in the Hollywood Reporter last week.

The article accused the 'Knocked Up' actress of being difficult to work with, and as a result she has seen dwindling roles in Hollywood.

But Wilson, the star of 'Insidious' who appeared alongside her in the film 'North of Hell', has stood up in her defence.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, he said: “Now listen, this article that came out was because - and you know how the press works - she sold a show last week to NBC. Well great!

“So what do people do? Hey, let's rip her down a few days later. So they write this article about 'Grey's Anatomy'. We're still talking about when she left 'Grey's Anatomy' how many years ago? We all have reputations, whether they're true or not.

“She was not only not all of those things - 'Oh, she was late and never came out of the trailer.' Nothing. She showed up, worked her tail off, super funny, super gracious, great to the cast, great to the crew, and was a total pro. Someone that's been doing it forever.

“And you walk away and you go, well that's a great actress and a great person to work with. And I'd work again with her in a heartbeat. So I have to defend her because she couldn't have been a better experience.”

In the article, the film's director Anthony Burns also stuck up for her, and Heigl's mother Nancy, who manages her daughter's career and also comes in for a lambasting in the piece.

“I'm from Texas,” he said. “I like honesty and to be cool and have a beer and laugh, and they are most definitely like that.

“Hopefully the next people [Heigl] works with will get to know her like I did. She's just a good old girl who likes to speak her mind.”

The remarks stood in contrast to reports that she had become demanding and difficult following her success on shows like 'Grey's Anatomy', and then in films like 'Knocked Up' and '27 Dresses'.

The Hollywood Reporter article was called 'From 'Knocked Up' to Nyquil Ads, can TV save Katherine Heigl's career?', referencing an advert Heigl recently starred in for the Vicks-owned sleep aid.  Watch it below.
