Patty Jenkins repeatedly offered Cathy Yan advice during 'Birds Of Prey' shoot
Birds Of Prey director Cathy Yan has heaped praise on Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins, revealing that her DC cohort repeatedly provided her with assistance throughout production on the blockbuster.
Yan, who before overseeing Birds Of Prey had only overseen the 2018 dark comedy Dead Pigs, as well as several short films, too, admitted that she would call upon Jenkins whenever she had a question.

And despite the fact that Jenkins was hard at work on Wonder Woman 1984, Yan says she always made the time to speak to her.
“She’s awesome — there was a lot for us to talk about it,” Yan told The Wrap. “I called her a bunch of times throughout and she was very much working on Wonder Woman 1984 at the same time, and she gave a lot of great advice. It’s nice to have that camaraderie.”
“It’s not even just among female directors — directing is actually quite lonely. There aren’t that many of us and what we do is pretty singular so I’m always very curious talking to other directors.”
Unfortunately, Yan wasn’t able to speak to David Ayer or Zack Snyder, who oversaw Suicide Squad as well as Man Of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and Justice League, respectively.

However, Margot Robbie was able to tell her stories of working with Ayer on Suicide Squad, with Yan adding, “He worked with actors for a very long time, he had a very long rehearsal period with them, so I thought that was really interesting.”
Yan will undoubtedly take all of these lessons into her next film, Sour Hearts, which is based on the short story collection from Chinese American writer Jenny Zhang.
