Patty Jenkins says Warner Bros made her change the end of 'Wonder Woman' at the 'last minute'

Director Patty Jenkins has revealed that Warner Bros forced her to change the end of her 2017 Wonder Woman movie 'at the last minute'.

The finale of the movie was an eye-popping CGI set piece, in which Gal Gadot's Diana Prince faces off David Thewlis's shape-shifting Ares, her half-brother who has been masquerading as a war minister during the conflict of World War One.

However, Jenkins has now revealed that she had planned something 'smaller' for the movie's climactic scene, which some criticised.

Speaking in an interview with IGN, she said: “The original end of the first movie was also smaller, but the studio made me change it at the last minute.

“So that’s always been a little bit of a bummer that that’s the one thing people talk about because I agreed. And I told the studio we didn’t have time to do it, but it was what it was. I ended up loving it, but that was not the original ending of the movie.”

Jenkins, on her press rounds for the movie's sequel Wonder Woman 1984, has also told The New York Times that whether she'll end up directing a third movie hangs in the balance.

That's because of how the sequel has been released due to the pandemic – on a limited number of cinema screens, but far more widely on premium VOD.

“We’ll see what happens. I really don’t know,” she said. “I know that I’d love to do the third one if the circumstances were right and there was still a theatrical model possible. I don’t know that I would if there wasn’t.”

It was announced yesterday that Wonder Woman 1984, after a brief stint at the UK cinemas that remain open, will head to VOD on 13 January.
