Paul Giamatti to play The Rhino in Spider-Man sequel?

Indie actor is in talks to appear in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Paul Giamatti is reportedly in talks for the somewhat unlikely role of The Rhino in Spider-Man sequel 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the star of films such as 'Sideways' and 'Cinderella Man' would be joining the returning cast including Andrew Garfield as Spidey, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey, and Jamie Foxx as potential co-villain Electro.

British actress Felicity Jones is also said to be in talks for an unspecified role.

The Rhino has been a long-standing character in the Spider-Man universe, first emerging in the 60s as a hulking Soviet supervillain who wears a special suit which gives him superhuman strength.

However, in more recent comic books, Spider-Man and Rhino have been on marginally better terms, throwing in potential for him to be an ally.

Also joining the cast will be Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, perhaps setting up a love triangle with Peter Parker and Gwen Stacey, and Dane DeHaan as Parker's one-time best friend Harry Osborne.

The film is due out on April 18, 2014, with 'The Amazing Spider-Man' director Marc Webb returning to the helm.
