Paul Walker Memorial Shut Down After Fast & Furious Tributes Anger Residents

The recent memorial event marking the passing of film star Paul Walker was marred by disgruntled residents, after overwhelming numbers arrived to pay their respects.

Fans of the actor and the franchise he starred in - ‘The Fast and The Furious’ - turned up as a sign of respect, but incredibly saw around 1,700 drivers attend the event that was, first and foremost, a charity do in the name of the late actor’s organisation Reach Out Worldwide. Apparently, only 800 or so were anticipated to attend, which left organisers stretched and naturally caused congestion.

The fundraiser was held at Thorpe Park and saw twice as many vehicles heading the the location last Sunday (29 November).

Many took to social media to voice their anger that ‘boy racers’ were revving their engines and causing chaos on the roads. In fact, police were called after a number of complaints forced them to close the entrance to the park around 90 minutes prior to the event closing because of the enormous number of cars that had amassed, which was a shame.

The charity event was a collaboration between Walker’s organisation and Thorpe Park’s Merlin’s Magic Wand, as well-wishers travelled from far and wide on the second anniversary of the actor’s tragic death.

Despite the problems, the event itself was a big success, raising thousands for the charities. It’s just unfortunate the huge support that turned out didn’t sit well with everyone in the surrounding areas.
